Baghdad Maps

The map included in the Ghazi Ammar Medieval Mysteries is based on Lassner’s maps of Baghdad. I have imagined the location of some neighbourhoods, markets, and lanes where they may not have been, simply because 1. I need to do what I like for the story, and I feel free to do that, and 2. maps of medieval Baghdad are based on medieval accounts and limited archaeological findings, and that gives me some freedom. While Osti and Ahola’s maps in Crisis and Continuity in the Abbasid Court are considered the most reliable, they are not in public domain and could not be published in the novels themselves. I will post an image of selections from both sources so you can see the difference. If you would like to see Lassner’s maps in a searchable pdf, you can find them here.
